EARLY MORNING SURVIVAL GUIDE

21 Jan

Waking up early is probably the most effective life-changing habit you could make. The morning routine in itself doesn’t exactly change a life, but it opens the door to many life-changing habits.

How many times have you heard someone say, “I’m not a morning person”? To me, this is equal to saying, “I never get lucky.” As most successful people will tell you, you don’t “get lucky,” rather you make your own luck by working harder and smarter.
Both set you up for failure. You can’t even begin to accomplish something if you already believe you will fail. Saying “I’m not a morning person” is turning something you actually can control, to something you believe you can’t control.

Many of the most successful people wake up early. In fact, I don’t know anyone who consistently wakes up before 6AM who isn’t doing something interesting with their life. It’s time to get productive!

Those who know me, know that I love my morning routine… but it’s not the same for everyone. Waking up to the buzz of your morning alarm at 5:00AM isn’t always bliss to your ears. The thoughts begin to sprint through your head – What was I thinking? I should have hit the sack a lot earlier last night? It seems as if it may be cold outside?

When I used to hear about people waking up at 5:00AM, I’d think they were freaks of nature. Why would anyone put themselves through that kind of torture? But maybe I have a few tricks up my sleeve that have turned me into a daily rise and grind kind of guy.

PUT YOUR EXCUSES TO SLEEP

Unless you are a AM superhero, having a basic alarm or ‘iPhone’ ain’t going to cut it. For those of you who manage to turn your alarm off without blinking an eye, try the Alarm Clock On Wheels ($30). We think this is by far the awesomest toy to own. It’ll pretty much roll around your bedroom until… voila! You are out of bed!

Another handy trick for you AM risers is to throw on your workout clothes before you hit the sack. Steer clear of full tight compressions as this can be super un -comfortable whilst you lay dreaming about the early morning burpees.  To avoid this stick with fits that promote breathability – Nikes  LEG-A-SEE LOGO ($60) features a screen print on a sweat-wicking, stretch cotton blend for style and comfort.

It doesn’t end there. Once you’re up you need to make sure that your warm or you’ll never slip out the doona covers again. Wrap your top half with Nike’s Tech Fleece Women’s Hoodie ($110), or the Nike Tech Fleece Windrunner ($120) for men. As for the bottom half comfort, performance and warmth is best achieved through Lululemons If You’re Lucky Pant ($119.00) and Nike Tech Men’s Running Tights ($90).

…And If you think that was all – we have one more thing to add to your arsenal. Kiehl’s Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant ($21), works just as good as it implies! This my friends will not only save you time BUT work twice as more efficient than your off the shelf ordinary deodorant. Apply the night before your AM workout and thats it! No need to reapply upon waking… trust me on this one – you’ll thank me later.

Add all the above to your collection and you might just become one of those AM heroes!  Remember all of this for that ‘pick me up’ morning workout is so worth it –  “I regret that workout…said no one ever.”
